Fenton Tigers Metro Baseball Champions

Fenton HS finished the baseball season with a 13-1 record to become the 2017 Metro champions.  The Tigers earn their 9th Flint Metro League title, the last coming in 2005.
 
Congratulations to our champs and to all our Metro baseball teams as they enter MHSAA post-season competition this week.

Kearsley, Clio and Holly Tri-Champs in Softball

The Metro League has tri-champions in the Kearsley Hornets, Clio Mustangs and the Holly Bronchos.  Each team posted a 10-4 league season record finishing two games ahead of the field.
 
Clio earns their first Metro title since joining the league in 2005.  Kearsley earned their last Metro title back in 2011, also as a tri-champion with Fenton and Lapeer West, after joining the league in 2008.  As an original member of the Metro in 1968, Holly’s last championship goes back the furthest with their last championship in 1977.
 
Congratulations to our champions and to all softball teams in the league as they enter MHSAA post season competition this week.

Swartz Creek Dragons Win Girls Metro Soccer Championship

​Swartz Creek made history this season with their first ever Flint Metro League soccer championship.  The Dragons went undefeated at 7-0 in dual action and amazingly did not allow a single goal scored against in conference play in 2017.
Congratulations to Coach Damiekco Smith and his team and best of luck in the post season.

Fenton Wins Boys Metro Golf Championship

​Fenton High School has captured their 24th Metro Golf Title in the 2017 season under the direction of Coach Kurt Herbstreit who was named the Metro Coach of the Year.  The Tigers finished the dual season with a 6-1 record and won both the Pre-Season and Championship Metro Tournaments. 
 
Brandon’s Brett Hobson was the tournament medalist with a round of 80 at Fenton Farms.  Completing the top 10 individual scores were: 
            82 - Dylan Conte – Fenton
            83 – Connor Vansteenburg - Kearsley
            83 – Tait Shaltz – Fenton
            84 - Jack Vollmar – Kearsley
            85 - Cam Beckwith – Swartz Creek

Metro Results From Regional Track

Fenton’s Zack West dominated Regional track performances this past weekend qualifying for the MHSAA State Finals in four events.  West was the Regional champion in the 100 M, 400 M, 4x200 Relay and runner-up in the 200 for a very impressive day.

The  MHSAA State Finals will be held on June 3 with the D1 Meet at East Kentwood High School and the D2 Meet at Zeeland High School.

Holly Sweeps Tennis Regional

The Holly Bronchos won the MHSAA D2 Regional Tennis meet on Thursday with a record-breaking effort taking all 32 points while sweeping each flight in both singles and doubles.
 
In singles competition, Taylor Barrett, Nicole Johnson, Makenzi Sells and Danielle Sink each won their respective flights for Holly.  Megan Lesperance/Ruby Barrett, Paige Reid/Maika Hogarth, Shannon Torpey/Megan McReynolds and Taylor McAninch/Sami Hild paired up to capture flight championships in doubles.  Each of these players will advance to the MHSAA State Finals.
 
Swartz Creek’s Maya Campbell will also advance to the state meet with her runner-up effort in #1 Singles at the Okemos regional.
 
The MHSAA D2 Tennis State Meet will be held on June2-3 at Hope College in Holland.

Deb VanKuiken Named Oakland County AD of Year

The Flint Metro League extends their congratulations to Holly AD Deb VanKuiken who has been selected as the Oakland County AD of the Year.

Deb has completed 33 years in education beginning her career in Bridgeport where she taught math and coached tennis for the Bearcats.  She moved into athletic administration at Bridgeport and served as the AD/AP for 6 years prior to her move to the AD position at Holly HS.

In addition to the OCADA 2016 Athletic Director of the Year, Deb has received the following honors:
  • CMAA: Certified Masted Athletic Administrator in the MIAAA 
  • MHSAA Women in Sports Leadership Award in 2009
  • MIAAA: George Lovich Service Award in 2011
  • MIAAA: Athletic Director of the Year in 2015
  • NIAAA:  Elected to the National Board

Fenton/Linden Heat Win Lax Championship

The Fenton/Linden Heat girls' lacrosse cooperative finished the Metro season with an undefeated season to win the league title.  Lacrosse became a league sport in the 2016-17 school year and the Heat have finished in first in both years of competition.  Best of luck to the team as they now enter the post season!
