Fenton Wins 4th Consecutive Girls' Golf Championship

Fenton High School dominated league action in girls' golf again this season with an undefeated dual season and winning each of the league tournaments by large margins. Leading the way for the Tigers was the tournament medalist Charlotte Cunaud with a 77 who narrowly beat out Swartz Creek's Neeley Peterson with a round of 78. Completing the top five individual players were Fenton's Lily Horning (82) and Brook Herbstreit (84) and Holly's Kate Brown (88). Swartz Creek and Holly battled to a tie for 2nd place in the team standings.

Congratulations to Fenton's Kurt Herbstreit who was named by the league coaches as the Flint Metro League Coach of the Year for the 5th time in girls' golf since the inception of the award in 2012. Kurt has also been twice named the boys' Coach of the Year in golf.

All teams will now enter MHSAA Regional competition beginning on October 10. Kearsley, Flushing and Swartz Creek will compete in D2 competition at Spruce Run; Fenton, Holly and Linden will also be in D2 at The Emerald; Clio and Owosso are in D3 hosted by Owosso; Brandon will compete at Pontiac CC in D3.

Metro League Announces September Athletes of the Month

Holly's Taylor Barrett and Fenton's Logan Welch have been selected by the Athletic Directors of the Flint Metro League as Athletes of the Month for September.

Taylor Barrett is a three-time First Team All-State tennis player for Holly. Earning the top spot as the Bronchos #1 Singles player for four straight years, Barrett has compiled an impressive resume. Taylor has been a 3-time Flint Metro League Champion, a 2-time Regional Champ, and a 2-time State semi-finalist. Also excelling in the classroom with a 3.6 GPA Taylor plans to continue her academic and athletic career at a Division I school where she will play tennis and study in the pre-med program. Taylor has also been selected by the area AD's as the Flint Kiwanis Athlete of the Month.

Logan Welch has been a three sport athlete for Fenton earning varsity letters in baseball, football and basketball. Welch earned 2nd Team All-Metro honors as a junior in baseball and has been a 3 year member of the varsity football team where he recently was an Mlive Player of the Week nominee. Extremely active in school and community activities, Logan is a busy volunteer. Also a standout in the classroom with a 3.537 GPA, Logan will continue his baseball career on an athletic scholarship at Saginaw Valley State University where he will study business.
