Fall Scholar-Athletes Announced by the Flint Metro League

Varsity athletes who achieved Scholar-Athlete status for the recently completed fall sports season have been named by Flint Metro League schools.  Varsity letter winners in 10th, 11th and 12th grades who played an official league sport and have maintained a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average achieve Flint Metro League Scholar-Athlete awards.  Award winners for each school are linked below; in addition, each sport's all-league team list has been updated to show which all-league athletes also achieved Scholar-Athlete status.

Flint Metro League Names November Athletes of the Month

Fenton's Caitlyn Dailey and Brandon's Matthew Hill have been named as the Flint Metro League's November Athletes of the Month. 

​Caitlyn Dailey is a 4 year letter winner for the swim and dive team at Fenton HS.  A 4 time Metro League First Team swimmer and 3 time state qualifier, Caitlyn has been an important member of the Tigers successful swim program.  Dailey has been a state qualifier in the 200 medley relay, 100 butterfly, 200 and 400 freestyle relay.  As a team captain in her senior season, Catilyn will again return to the state final in the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay. She also qualified in the MISCA meet in the 200 medley relay, 50 free, 100 fly and 400 free relay.  Also a standout in the classroom with a 4.0 GPA, Caitlyn plans to major in Spanish and may continue her swimming career in college.

Matt Hill is a two-sport athlete in football and wrestling for Brandon HS.  The captain started an amazing 41 consecutive varsity games as a 4-year letter winner.  Matt was selected as a First Team All-Metro offensive lineman as a sophomore and was a unanimous selection as a senior to the O-line and also named First Team on the defensive line.  As a junior, Matt was named to the Division 3 All State Honorable Mention team.  Matt plans to continue his football career at the collegiate level and currently has several athletic offers he his considering.

Fenton Swim/Dive Capture 15th Straight Metro Title

The Fenton Tigers continued their dominance of Metro swim and dive with a decisive win in the recent Championship Meet following an undefeated dual season.

Fenton was led by freshman standout Gracie Olsen who won all FOUR of her events and set Metro League records in three of the four.  Olsen was a member of the 200 Medley Relay team of Halee Alexander, Megan Mallard and Rose Haney with a time of 1:54.46.  This breaks the record previously set by Fenton in 2016 of 1:55.19.  Gracie also teamed with Caitlyn Dailey, Sabrina Hall and Abigail Dolliver to set a new record in the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:40.88 breaking a previous Fenton record set in 2011 of 1:41.94.  Olsen shattered the 200 IM record with a time of 2:04.04 set in 2011 by Emily Shallman of Lapeer of 2:10.94.

Lily Kromer of Fenton earned First Team All-Metro in three events winning the 50 Free, 100 Free and was a member of the 400 Free Relay.  Owosso's Allie Pumford was a double winner taking the 100 Fly and 200 Free.

Congratulations to Brad Jones from Fenton who repeats as Metro League Coach of the Year.  

All teams will now advance to the MHSAA Finals which will be held on November 16 and 17.

Metro League Harriers Do Well at Regionals

The Flint Metro League will continue their presence at the MHSAA State Finals with two boys teams, one girls team and 16 individual runners who will compete at MIS on Saturday.

The Fenton girls team won the team D1 Regional Championship last weekend at Hess Hathaway Park with a team score of 63, four better than the Milford runner-up team.  Leading the way for the Tigers was League Champion Alexa Keiser who finished in 7th place overall.  Also medaling for Fenton were Cambria Tiemann in 12th, Kaitlin Bayer in 13th and Abbey Lee in 15th.  Jessica Adams, Emily Grob and Hanna Chapin will also run on Saturday for Fenton in the Finals.

The Fenton boys team placed 3rd also at Hess Hathaway Park in D1 competition.  Medaling for the Fenton boys were Adam Jesse who finished 3rd overall, Samuel Cox in 10th and Logan Canada in 14th.  Rounding our the team qualifiers are Nolan Day, Gage Bond, Micah Dekraker and Remington Stapp.

The Linden boys team placed 3rd in D2 competition on their home course at Linden Middle School.  Junior Tyler Buchanan was the Regional Champion with a time of 16:15.0, a full 18 seconds over the next competitor.  Joining Buchanan in a trip to the Finals are Eagle runners Nicholas Shrable, River Meckstroth, Drew Krueger, Liam Sack Max Gatza and Grant Maxheimer.

Runners who finished in the top 15 from non-qualifying teams will also have the opportunity to compete at the MHSAA finals as individuals.  Here is a list of those who have qualified from the Metro:
