Lake Fenton Wins First Metro League Wrestling Title

2/13/2023

Lake Fenton was in full command of the Flint Metro League wrestling tournament, winning by over 50 points to claim their first FML wrestling title since joining the league in 2018.  The Blue Devils finished the dual season with a record of 10-1. Flushing and Fenton each came into the league meet with 8-3 dual match records with Flushing taking 2nd in the tourney to finish in 2nd overall in league standings.

Lake Fenton medaled in 9 out of 14 weight classes, taking three firsts, three seconds and three third places.  Jorge Marvin (106), Clay Cook (120), and Noah Hall (150) were gold medalists for LF on the day.  Linden claimed four individual champions with Bryce Shingleton (126), Adoniah Delgado (138), Michael Bush (175) and Jase Grundy (190).  Fenton had two champions in Jamal Home (113) and Phillip Lamka (157),  Swartz Creek also had two champions with Mason Feudale (132) and Austin Luther (285).  Holly had Kendall Drake (165) and Flushing had Jaxson Hicks (215) for one apiece.

Bryce Shingleton’s victory at 126 pounds technically placed him on the exclusive list of four-time Flint Metro League individual wrestling champions.  The league tournament was not held in ‘20-‘21 due to Covid-19, but a vote by the coaches placed him on the first team list.  Bryce previously won league championships at 119 pounds as a freshman and as a sophomore. Only 13 other wrestlers have claimed four league crowns since 1969.
