November Flint Metro League Athletes of the Month Announced

11/13/2017

Multiple-sport athletes Keegan Miller from Fenton and Kyle Postma from Holly are the Flint Metro League’s November Athletes of the Month.

Keegan Miller has a long and impressive resume as one of the area’s premier golfers.  A four year member of the golf team, Keegan has earned All-Metro honors in each of the past three seasons and also was the medalist at three of the past four Metro tournaments.  A two time State qualifier, Keegan earned Honorable Mention All State accolades in her sophomore, junior and senior seasons and was named to the All State Academic golf team this past season. Keegan also lettered in basketball and track for the Tigers, while carrying a 3.03 GPA.  Future plans for Keegan include a degree in elementary education at SVSU where she also hopes to continue her golf career.

Ethan Postma lettered in boys' tennis and soccer since his freshman year at Holly, while carrying a 3.749 GPA.  Despite All-Metro and All-District accolades in soccer during his sophomore, junior and senior years, Ethan’s strongest sport is tennis, played during the same season!  Impressively, he has been a Metro League tennis champion since a sophomore, a Regional Champion at 1-Doubles as a junior and senior, and a State Qualifier the past three seasons.  To cap off his outstanding season, Postma was named Honorable Mention All-State in tennis this year.  Ethan is considering Lawrence Tech and Oakland University. He plans to study computer engineering and computer science and hopes to continue his soccer career at the next level.

Flint Metro League All-Sports Points Following the Fall Season

11/13/2017

Following Metro championships in six league sports, the Fenton Tigers have a significant lead in the All-Sports trophy following the fall season.  Fenton has won 36 of 48 total races dating back to the inception of the Flint Metro league in 1968-69.

For each varsity sport, a school receives one point for each team it finishes ahead of in the final standings, with the league champion receiving a bonus point.  Fenton won league championships in girls' golf, girls' and boys’ cross country, football, girls’ swim and dive and volleyball this fall, and placed second in boys’ soccer and third in boys' tennis.

There are seven winter sports and eight spring sports yet to compete for in the 2017-18 league sports year, so there is plenty of time for movement in the all-sports competition between now and June.
