Re: Owosso League Membership
From: Flint Metro League
The Flint Metro League is pleased to announce that Owosso will join the Conference as its ninth member, beginning with the 2017-18 school year. The vote to add Owosso, currently a member of the Capital Area Activities Conference, was a unanimous choice of the league’s principals at their October 2nd meeting. Three weeks later on Monday, October 24th, the Owosso Board of Education voted 7-0 to leave the CAAC and formally enter the Flint Metro League.
Two key components to the application process include:
· A subcommittee of principals and athletic directors from Flint Metro League schools visit the high school applying for membership.
· The applicant then identifies a team of key stakeholders to participate in a screening interview held by designated principals and athletic directors from the Flint Metro League schools.
Owosso athletic director, Dallas Lintner, commented, "Moving to the Flint Metro League provides a number of positives for the Trojans, primary of which is the opportunity to be a part of long time traditions in established communities. Owosso has been entrenched in the Flint area for generations and we're excited to rekindle old traditions with old friends. A key reason for Owosso's move to the Flint Metro League is our similarities in academic excellence and community involvement, along with fielding competitive sports teams."
All Flint Metro League principals and athletic directors have agreed Owosso is a fantastic fit for the league. Flint Metro League President Jamie Johnston of Swartz Creek stated, "In addition to competing in athletics, Flint Metro League schools get together for other activities, such as Student Council meetings and Quiz Bowl challenges." She also said "principals, athletic directors and counselors from the Flint Metro League schools collaborate regularly to exchange ideas."
The Flint Metro League welcomes Owosso High School as a full member of their League.
