The Flint Metro league announces Fenton's Julia Young and Joel Diccion as the female and male Athletes of the Month for January for the Stripes Division.
Julia Young is a two sport athlete lettering in both ski and soccer for the Tigers and serving as captain for both teams. In ski, Julia was named to the All Region team as a junior and was a state qualifier in both the slalom and giant slalom. Julia also plays soccer for Fenton and contributed to the team's league title last season. Also excelling in the classroom with a 4.038 GPA, Julia has received numerous academic scholarships and will attend Findlay University majoring in Pre-Vet/Animal Science in her goal to become a veterinarian.
Joel Diccion has been a four year member of the Tiger swim team leading Fenton to numerous titles. He earned first team honors in the 100 backstroke and 200 medley relay as a sophomore and junior, as well as the 400 free relay as a sophomore. Joel also was a state qualifier in the 200 m. relay and 100 back as both a sophomore and junior, along with the 100 fly and 400 free as a sophomore and 200 IM as a junior. He is the current school record holder in the 100 backstroke. Joel has maintained a 3.915 GPA and plans to continue his swim career in college while studying astronomical engineering.
