The Flint Metro league announces Madison Voelker and Caden Veenhuis from Goodrich HS as the female and male Athletes of the Month for January for the Stars Division.
Madison Voelker is a standout basketball player and earned First Team All-State honors as both a sophomore and a junior. She was a GAC unanimous First Teamer in 9th, 10th and 11th grade and two-time Flint Area Player of the Year. Madison holds the school record for points in a game at 44 and has cleared the 1,000 point barrier as a junior. She has lead the Martians to two league and 3 district championships. Named a BCAM Academic All-Stater last season with a 4.06 GPA, Madison will continue her basketball career at Northwood University on a full ride scholarship where she will major in healthcare management. Madison was also selected as the Kiwanis Athlete of the Month.
Caden Veenhuis is a two sport athlete for Goodrich lettering in both basketball and golf. A two year member and current captain for the Martian basketball team, Caden has helped the team to a District championship last season and the team currently leads the Stars division with a 7-0 record. In the spring, Caden earned honorable mention status in two seasons as a varsity golfer. Also excelling in the classroom, Caden has maintained a 3.8 GPA.
